English Essay #05

Translation of a short diary entry

Time spent: 10 min for writing in Japanese, < 20 min for the translation, < 20 min for memorizing the proofread text

I'll write a Japanese essay first and then translate it into English. While writing directly in English helps you practice natural phrasing by freeing you from Japanese linguistic structures, translating a Japanese essay helps you construct more complex sentences. That's because you're forced out of your comfort zone to express complex content originally written in Japanese.

Initially, I aimed to post an English essay every other day, but I've been slacking off for a week. To make sure I build this habit, I will share my progress every Sunday morning in the LINE group.

Yesterday, I read a biology paper, recommended by a friend. The research in the paper revealed how excessive, vigorous exercise can lead to congnitive dysfunction. This was a really interesting topic, especially for runners like me. While this is a very rough calculation, running 100km a month will reduce health risks the most in my case. I would love to build a habit of running in the morning.

Takeaways:

  • free you from sth
  • forced out of your comfort zone
  • every other day
  • slack off
  • a biology paper
  • health risks
