English Essay #08

Time spent: > 10 min for English writing, < 20 min for memorizing the proofread text

At the end of the year approaches, I want to reflect on one of the most significant events that happened to me this year: taking a leave of absence from school.

At the beginning of the year, the idea hadn't even crossed my mind. I was struggling to balance my research, my part-time job, preparations for studying abroad, and the task of organizing my thoughts. In hindsight, I had no choice but to grant myself a one-year moratorium.

While having so much to do certainly contributed to my lack of mental space, I believe the decisive factor was the rapid change in my perspective. I began attending book clubs in September, 2024, and since then, I have gradually built a consistent reading habit. Even at a pace of four books a month, I've found that reading is the most affordable way to transform one's worldview—I was no exception. It's difficult to put into words exactly how my views have shifted, but this new habit has been a constant "shock" to my system. I simply couldn't process the flood of new concepts entering my mind.

I have no idea when I will finally be able to digest these realizations—it may take decades—but I hope to find a little more peace of mind next year.
